Bed nets for birthdays
Submitted by Kate Kovarovic on Wed, 2008-05-07 16:12.
When it comes down to it, some kids just know how to throw a party.
Just ask Henry Leue. He recently came across the Nothing But Nets blog about ten year-old Naomi Kodama turning her birthday party into a chance to help others. She threw a party where her guests were able to donate money for life-saving bed nets.
After reading Naomi’s blog, Henry was inspired to use his tenth birthday for good, too. Instead of hosting the small party with family and friends that his mother had intended, Henry turned his birthday gathering into an event to support JCI’s fund-raising efforts for the Nothing But Nets campaign!
It's all about the net

Last night marked the third game of the season between NBA rivals the Chicago Bulls and the New Jersey Nets. But regardless of the final score, the real winners of last night's game were children all throughout Africa!
NBA stars Luol Deng and DeSagana Diop have teamed up with the Nothing But Nets campaign to make personal commitments to preventing malaria. Chicago Bulls forward Deng has pledged $50 to Nothing But Nets for each shot made during the regular season this year. And Diop, the newly acquired center for the New Jersey Nets, will donate $100 for each blocked shot.

Last summer, Nothing But Nets reached out to college students across the country to participate in the Buzzcuts competition. We challenged them to find new and creative ways to engage their peers and raise awareness for malaria prevention. Buzzcuts proposals came in from all across the U.S.!
It wasn’t easy, but we picked our top 12 finalists and brought them to the Nothing But Nets offices in Washington, DC. We helped each student find ways to turn their proposals into reality. We then gave each finalist a mini-grant and sent them back to campus to get planning.
Slideshow: Your nets in Mali
Submitted by Kate Kovarovic on Fri, 2008-01-18 16:11.Over the past few weeks you’ve probably heard a lot about our recent trip to Mali. Nothing But Nets was honored to take part in a national, integrated health campaign that delivered over two million bed nets to families in need. And thanks to our supporters, we were able to fund the distribution of 133,000 of those nets.
While we’ve shared a few of our Mali blogs with you, words can barely describe the look on a child’s face after receiving their very own bed net. So we’d like to invite you to view our new slideshow, where we share a few of our favorite photos from Mali.
It’s nice to know that because of your support, that smiling child will sleep safely tonight.
Nothing But Nets at the MLS Cup!

It was a busy morning as MLS W.O.R.K.S. invited Nothing But Nets to host a booth at the MLS Cup Soccer Celebration in front of the stadium. I had a great time talking to the hundreds of fans who made it out to the booth to learn more about the Campaign. Their excitement was infectious. We even raised enough money to send bed nets to protect 136 people! Nothing But Nets spokesperson, Diego Gutierrez of the Chicago Fire, even came out to greet soccer and Nothing But Nets fans alike.
