Children’s Museum of Houston teaches kids about malaria

One of the coolest efforts we’ve seen across the country to educate kids about malaria and to motivate them to help is through the Children’s Museum of Houston. The museum is currently hosting an exhibit called Nothing But Nets: Kids in Houston Reaching Out, funded by ExxonMobil Foundation, that teaches children about Africa, malaria, and how they have the power to help prevent the devastating disease. The museum opened right before World Malaria Day in April and runs through May 28. We like it because it’s a hands-on way for children to get involved by learning and become empowered to do something to help those in need. Click here for more information on the exhibit!
Honor your mother. Send a net. Save a life.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and we think giving to Nothing But Nets is a great way to honor that special lady in your life- by donating a bed net in her name. For the first few years of our lives, our mothers held our hand, picked us up when we fell, and rocked us to sleep. They kept us healthy and happy. Nothing But Nets wants to help mothers in Africa do the same for their children, and we do it through providing bed nets to sleep under and keep away mosquitoes. Pregnant mothers and children under five are the most susceptible to contracting malaria, but the protective bed nets allow mothers to enjoy the simple pleasure of caring for their children, as our mothers cared for us.
Last day to play and send a net without opening your wallet!

You still have today to play if you haven’t already and to send the game to your friends, family, neighbors, classmates, colleagues or whoever. Remember, it’s so easy to play and win with this game because you’re saving a life at the same time.

Ringing the NYSE bell

Ted Turner, Rick Reilly and the mosquito just rang the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closing bell. That closes the first annual World Malaria Day ever! The NYSE floor was crazy and everyone loved the mosquito- just as we had hoped.
So even though the bell has rung, our efforts at Nothing But Nets aren't over. Keep on sending nets and saving lives!
Kids making a difference through education

We’re here at the Nothing But Nets youth event— co-hosted with Malaria No More and Children for Children—and the kids are having fun already. The students range from kindergarten age to high schoolers, and all of them are really interested in what malaria is, and what Nothing But Nets is doing to help confront the disease.
The groups are currently preparing their World Malaria Day skits, and we’re constantly hearing them say "that's really cool" when they find out how they can help. And just about every time the mosquito appears, the kids let loose an ear-to-ear smile or a big laugh.
