Champions head to Capitol Hill for Summit

On September 28-29, over 150 of our grassroots supporters will come to Washington, DC for the 2014 Nothing But Nets Champion Summit, which will convene inspiring speakers and offer valuable trainings on how to take action in the fight against malaria.

The diversity and power of this group is impressive; these Champions are teachers and students, artists and athletes, religious leaders and entrepreneurs. They have led recycling drives, held bake sales, donated their birthdays, collected loose change, held basketball tournaments, engaged their college campuses, driven cross country, and held meetings with their members of Congress, all with the goal of raising funds and awareness to help combat malaria.

As part of the Summit, these Champions from more than 30 states will go to Capitol Hill to meet with their members of Congress. There, they will stress the importance of U.S.-funded programs to fight malaria, such as the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the work of our UN partners such as UNHCR, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization.

So how does talking to your members of Congress help impact the fight against malaria? While Nothing But Nets and its UN partners have delivered more than 7.5 million bednets to families in sub-Saharan Africa, we can have an even greater impact when we are able to secure more funding from the U.S. government to support programs that invest in malaria research and development, prevention, control, diagnosis, and treatment, all of which are necessary tools in the fight against this deadly disease.

To get a better understanding of the impact that your advocacy can have, and to learn more about how you can take advocacy action to help fight malaria, check out our infographic below, and visit the advocacy section of our website.

As this graphic shows, by raising your voice, you can help ensure the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the President’s Malaria Initiative, and our UN partners are fully funded to ensure even more families are able to live happier, healthier lives.

Together, we can defeat malaria!
