My name is Damilola, I was born in the United States but raised in Lagos, Nigeria and I am a recent graduate with a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of San Francisco. Prior to that, I attended the University at Albany, where I pursued double majors in Sociology and Women’s Studies, along with double minors in Communications and Leadership. During my time at Albany, I had the privilege of serving as the President of the Student Association. One word I often use to describe myself is ‘limitless.’ I am continually seeking opportunities not only to assist those in my community but also to expand my knowledge and personal growth, with the aim of becoming a better individual.
Having grown up in Nigeria, malaria has been a constant presence in my life, affecting not only me but also my loved ones. It’s truly astonishing that such a tiny insect can inflict so much harm. What’s even more baffling is that a solution to this disease exists, yet it continues to persist. The UN Foundation isn’t just paying lip service; they’re actively working to make a difference in the lives of people worldwide. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be a part of this dedicated team.
I firmly believe in the power of collaboration, understanding that two heads are indeed better than one. I am enthusiastic about working collectively with others, particularly when it involves making a significant impact in the context of saving a child’s life. I am filled with anticipation to witness and hear about the far-reaching effects of our efforts in countries all around the world, ultimately providing children with the opportunity to lead purposeful lives.
For a span of 5 years, I had the privilege of being an Afrobeats dance instructor. Dancing to Afrobeats not only brought me immense joy but also a sense of connection to my roots.
