Nothing But Nets Condemns the Attacks on the U.S. Capitol

All of us at the Nothing But Nets campaign join in solidarity with so many around the world in condemning the attack on the U.S. Capitol yesterday.

The U.S. has a proud legacy of bipartisan leadership in the fight to end malaria. As Nothing But Nets has worked across the aisle for years to advocate for global health funding, we have witnessed how powerful it is when a group of passionate individuals come together to address global injustices. What we witnessed yesterday was not that- it was a violent and baseless assault on our democracy.

Time and time again, our champions have shown us what the best of democracy looks like – citizens working with their members of Congress to address the world’s most pressing problems and to build a more just, equal, and healthier world. In the face of these abhorrent acts, we are particularly grateful for their demonstration of what true leadership looks like as we fight for a world where no one dies from a mosquito bite.

We must show that America keeps its promises and cares about the world we leave behind for future generations. While yesterday may have challenged our country and the institutions of our democracy, we believe that it does not define us.

We’re hopeful that the democratic process was ultimately carried out late last night with Congress officially certifying the electoral college votes. We stand ready to work with a new administration to continue fighting for a malaria-free world in a manner that inspires hope, progress, and unity. We hope you’ll join us.
