World Cup Watch Party Sends Hundreds of Nets

What’s better than one winning team?  Two winning teams – Team USA and Team Bzzzkill!  Last week, long-time champions, Diego and Ginna Gutierrez, supported both teams as they hosted a World Cup Watch Party in their hometown of Lee’s Summit, MO to cheer on the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) as they advanced to the round of 16. Being prominent in the soccer community, strong supporters of Nothing But Nets since 2007, and most importantly the parents of three healthy children, Diego and Ginna decided to introduce their hometown to our life-saving campaign.

Recently, U.S. star defender DaMarcus Beasley announced his World Cup Challenge for Nothing But Nets, committing to donate 25 insecticide-treated bed nets to families in sub-Saharan Africa for every U.S. win in the World Cup. He’ll also donate 10 nets for every tie. He called on U.S. soccer fans to join his challenge by hosting World Cup watch parties and matching his donations to the campaign. 

The Gutierrez watch party filled local restaurant, 810 Zone, to capacity with over 300 people and featured a silent auction, raffle, Nothing But Nets gear, games, drink specials, and of course, an exciting game.  Diego, Ginna, and their friends raised more than $3200 to help save the lives of hundreds of children in sub-Saharan Africa.
